If you're hosting a festive dinner this year, whether it's a friendsmas gathering, Boxing day lunch or Christmas day dinner, we know how much work it is to think of all the details to make the whole experience special, on top of thinking about the actual food.
So if you're in need of some inspiration on how to be the host with the most and throw an epic dinner party - here's 6 tips or things to think about when it comes to tablescaping, sans the food part - that will be coming soon in a separate post!
1. Start with your base layer
The first step of any tablescaping is the base layer, thinking about your colour schemes andwhether you're going with a full tablecloth, runner or just placemats.
You can go minimal with a simple linen cloth or more maximalist with rich velvet textures and patterned tablecloths, depending on the vibe you're going for!
Nothing adds more ambience to a dinner party than dinner candles. Glass handblown candles holders add a reflective glow to any table and a pop of colour for a more modern tablescape.
Once you've added your base and your candles, the next step is to add in some "filler" decorative bits.
This is where you can get really creative and for Christmas this could be anything from dried orange slices, or whole oranges with cloves, tree trimmings, mistletoe and other decorative pieces.
DIY menus and place cards are also a great way to add a special touch!
If you're looking to go for a less uniform table, mismatched plateware and glassware give a more unique and interesting look - especially if you have some one-off charity shop or vintage finds!
It doesn't even necessarily have to be traditional Christmas colours, you can go with bright orange tones for 70s vibes, or pinks and reds for a more kitsch look.
Once you've got your plateware and cutlery laid out, think about how you can add in more dimension through different height serving dishes like cake stands or cocktail glasses as serving bowls.
If you don't have any cake stands, you can use other objects as pedestals to place your serving dishes on. It also makes it easier for people to see what's on the table if it's a long one!
You can either fold them and place them on the side of each plate or tie some twine or ribbon around them with a sprig of mistletoe or tree trimmings along with their DIY name placecard!
